The Future of Gaming?

by

This is a demonstration of Microsoft’s new add on for the Xbox called Project Natal. It’s a rival to the Wii and looks pretty amazing as it doesn’t use any controllers, the gamer is the controller controlling games using their body. The hardware uses two cameras to track body movement and measure depth so it can tell where you are in the room along with software tracking various physical movements. This all leads to what looks like a really immersive experience and if programmers latch onto it could produce some amazing games. Time magazine have written an interesting article about it which you can check out here.

Thinking about this made me remember the old virtual reality games you could play in arcades where the idea was you’d put on helmets like this one and walk around virtual worlds.

Funny how ideas change…
